5 out of 5 stars Bose Price - But good quality!   July 7, 2010

Love this system.... I use it with my Onkyo 500 series 5.1 reciever and it looks & sounds very nice!

4 out of 5 stars I like them, there are staying !!!   June 1, 2010

First off, I got a great deal on them ($700.00 out the door with a 30 day return policy). So at that price I would give them a shot.
I am using a Kenwood KFR-9080 7.1 THX Select reciever that has high power, so I believe you need decent equipment to get the most out of the system.

I am really pleased with sound of this system, I have set up a Bose Lifestyle system before and it sounded ok, but not something I would ever buy. It is too limited with power and dvd playback. So using my Kenwood reciever I get very loud and fairly accurate sound. The first thing I watched on it was Avatar, I decided to keep them after that. The bass was pounding and made the movie very exciting to watch. I have found that normal listening to regular audio like cds you need to boost the treble a bit and cut back on the bass to get a nice clean sound.

So overall I am really enjoying the system, but at $999.00 would I still like it ? The jury is still out on that.

1 out of 5 stars Poor Speakers for the Price   March 31, 2010

Unfortunately, these speakers did not live up to my expectations. I think they are halfway decent speakers, but for the price I expect them to be something to be proud of.

I have to say overall the sound quality is just about poor. The highs are not there, and neither are the lows. The bass module has the frequency set so high it seems the woofer is pointed right at me, instead of being an ambient rumble. I tried to check the frequency response but was disappointed to find that Bose doesn't release this information. After searching the web I found someone who said they tested it but it was so poor and since its only 1 guy maybe he was wrong. The bass module does produce considerable bass for its size (Well, highs at least), but sounds very muddled. On my test I had low bass lines I waited to hear that never happened. Also, replacing the sub only is not an option because the system will not work without it. Just the bass module's performance alone makes this product deserve 1 star.
The little cube speakers seem to have their frequency set too high, there is absolutely no bass coming from them, that means when someone is talking on a movie in a deep voice, most of the sound comes from the bass module and makes it sound very uneven.

It seems that the woofers are made of cardboard, not the kind of thing you would expect from speakers of this price. The speaker boxes themselves feel cheap but seem solid enough at least.

The setup is a little frustrating because its not setup like a normal set of speakers. They all have to route through the bass module, and due to this, whatever settings you have on your receiver will be overridden by the crossover setup by Bose.

Overall I think this product may have earned 3 to 4 stars at $200 - $300, but for this price, it feels like a rip off.

Sorry Bose, but I think your highly overrated. The is sound OK, their compact and do not distort and fairly loud. I replaced a pair of older Klipsch. Guess I got used to the good stuff.

1 out of 5 stars Very poor product   March 10, 2010

I have a friend with this system. It is broken (produces no sound).

I have heard similar Bose systems (I think the AM 5) and it produced a very thin sound where male voices sounded muffled. I believe that the tiny tiny speakers cannot produce enough bass to accurately reproduce voices (much less explosions etc).
