Product Description
These cube speakers are small and flexible enough to be discretely placed in any home theater set up, but has the power to produce full lifelike sound in 5.1-channel surround sound. The unique swivel design let you create as large a soundstage as you need. This is because you are able to reflect sound off your room's walls, as well as project it directly into the room. This immerses you in a surround sound experience which doesn't limit you to just one "sweet spot". Much like a movie theater, your entire room will have the full, detailed, lifelike sound you demand. The speakers also feature magnetic shielding to eliminate vibration and interference to other components. The speakers come with two mounting brackets that match the color of the speakers. The brackets attach securely to the bottom or the sides of the speakers. Because of the bracket's design, you can then choose to either screw them into the ceiling or use them as stands on your desk or bookshelf.

4 out of 5 stars JA Audio mini Cube speakers   March 4, 2010
Falcon Radman (Hilton Head, S.C.)
These speakers are well constructed and have a nice sound for a surround sound system.
Only problem was the bracket system, No explanation on how to utilize the brackets.
Also had a damaged part. Not a problem for me, since I did not hang the speakers.
Great choice if you need something small for an apartment, condo or room.

3 out of 5 stars Not for home theater use   September 23, 2009

Don't expect these speakers to work in a home theater system, as they won't (they are M-I-N-I cubes, for goodness-sake!). these speakers, as far as I can tell, will only work well as simple shelf speakers to provide sound to a small area. they produce no base at all (of course not, as they weren't designed to, with their 27-ish cubic inches of enclosure space! [3x3x3 inches]), full-bodied midrange is absent (only mid to upper midrange is present), and no shining highs. i'm not bagging on these speakers, i'm only saying that they will sorely disappoint you if you try to use them in an application that they weren't intended for, ie H.T... they do have good sturdy weight to them, though. the construction feels solid. the mounting hardware that comes with them is extremely rugged & stout. i feel that these speakers are probably best used in a cubicle, or in an office waiting area, a computer table, or in an area where space is at an extreme premium. Or in a monitoring system or store PA system. Or perhaps on a patio wall or ceiling (away from water, of course).

I think the biggest selling point of these speakers is the sturdy mounting hardware that comes with them. I'm serious. The mounting hardware seems to be made out of military grade billet steel! So their strong-suit is their ability to be mounted on the wall or the ceiling (or the surface of a table) using the many different configurations that all of the mounting pieces provide.

These speakers, when you begin to turn up the volume louder and louder, really do sound ok, with no distortion or cracking. I didn't torture them with my Onkyo however, I simply turned them up until all 5 of them sounded pretty darn loud, and at that level, they sounded fairly good. That is, they sounded good in the range that they are capable of.

I'm not sure how they measured the 3.5 inches that's advertised at amazon.com _My tape measure told me that each little unit has an upper and lower section containing a TWO-AND-A-HALF inch speaker. The unit itself is 4.5 inches deep, 3.25 inches wide, and 7.0 inches tall.

From a visual standpoint, these speakers are quite handsome & professional looking. The grill is sturdy and the speaker itself is securely mounted to the enclosure. I removed the actual speaker to take a picture of it and it has absolutely no markings at all. So where it was manufactured, nobody knows (China would be my guess). The speaker itself does have a beefy sized magnet attached to it & overall seems to be of quality construction.

I obviously have a lot to learn about home theater. i bought 5 of these (2 front, 2 rear, and 1 center chanel, plus i have a powered subwoofer) and mounted them to my ceiling & aimed them down towards the couch. they only reproduce a small segment of the sound spectrum. i was so disappointed with my "great idea". i'm now in the process of removing them from my ceiling and buying some floor standing Polk Monitor 60's.

Again, i don't want to bash these attractive speakers because i'm sure they are good at what they were designed to do (what are mini-cube speakers designed to do, anyway???). And I have learned that the home theater application is not it.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Little Speakers!   May 28, 2007

I recently upgraded to a new A/V receiver in the living room. The old one (Onkyo TXDS484) is a great receiver and still worked fine so I decided to move it upstairs into the master bedroom, but I didn't have speakers to go with it. I'm not an audiophile and this was my "secondary" system so I wasn't looking for anything fancy. I just wanted to watch movies and listen to music. It was also important to me that I get something small and discrete since these would go in the bedroom. The JA Audio 3.5" mini cubes seemed perfect. And they were. These little speakers are amazing! I was very surprised how crisp and full the speakers were considering their size. They worked perfectly with my receiver and I got everything set up in no time. The swivel feature is also pretty neat since I could direct the sound wherever I needed. The speakers came with some nice matching mounting brackets too which I didn't use, but they could come in handy in the future. The only negative I can really think of is they don't handle low frequencies very well. I suggest a bass unit to go with these to get the full effects of surround sound. Other than that, I am very happy with these and I would highly recommend these speakers to anybody thinking about starting a surround sound home theater set up.

PRO:
-Amazing sound
-Small and discrete
-Swivel feature

CON:
- Need additional subwoofer unit

5 out of 5 stars Surprising Performance, Great Value   September 13, 2006

Having just moved into a new house, my home theatre was given the approval to be slightly updated. I had the rear speakers pre-wired, but my existing bookshelf speakers were just too big to mount. My hunt began for a small, low-priced, wall-mountable rear speaker for a 5.1 system. None of my local stores offered such a product or had 1 model available at double what I wanted to spend. Enter JA Audio. First of all, I've never heard of them, but figured it's a low watt rear speaker - it's only going to be used for filler and background sounds. Even if they're not the greatest, they'll do the job. And the price was right, so I ordered and within a week I had my new 3.5" cube speakers in hand, ready to rock. Aside from the price, the size and look of the speakers are what drew me in. The fact that the cubes swivel was a bonus. The room that I have my system set up in is relatively small (200 ft/sq) but it opens into another room. My front, center, and sub can fill the house nicely, but I needed a rear channel that could make everything complete. Because I can adjust the direction of each cube, I'm able to use my walls for reflection while at the same time, directing them into the "dead zones" in my room. The mounting brackets are good too (take note - wall anchors and screws are not included). Speakers can be wall or ceiling mounted, and since the mounting arms are in separate pieces, you can adjust the depth at which they're mounted (this can effect your sound!!!). So, how do they sound? They sound great! I ran tests with different movies, TV shows, and a few sporting events to get the crowd noise in the background. After some volume adjustments on my amp and slight adjustments to the direction that the speakers were firing, everything was perfect. The rear sounds even filtered into the adjoining room nicely. Music is equally as good. I played several styles of music in the different preset modes that my amp offers and they did the trick. I am very happy with how these little guys are performing, and they look great mounted on the walls. I've owned several brands of speakers - Bose, Boston Acoustics, Yamaha, Marantz, JBL - and I would put these up there with them. And you can't beat the price. If you're looking for a solid performer to compliment your home theatre at a reasonable cost, these are definitely worth a look.
