Each speaker uses a pair of 2.5-inch drivers using Bose's Articulated Array configuration. Turn on your favorite CD or settle in with a DVD and let rich, natural sound fill your room. You'll also experience Bose Stereo Everywhere speaker performance almost anywhere in the room, rather than merely in the smaller "sweet spots" produced by most conventional speakers. The speakers' proprietary ported enclosures ensure smooth, consistent low-frequency response, irrespective of where they're placed. The 191 speakers come with both rectangular and round grilles. Consider which shape will work best in your chosen location. If you prefer the round shape, it's easy to remove the rectangular (default) frames and replace them with the round ones. And when they're painted to match your walls or ceilings, they blend right in (you can always leave them white, of course). The speakers are optimized for use with amplifiers ranging in output power from 10 to 100 watts per channel. Automatic protection circuitry protects the drivers from being overdriven, increasing their reliability without detracting from your listening. For installation in a drop ceiling (where tile is installed below the ceiling joists), Bose offers an optional drop ceiling kit (product code 031355) for 2 speakers, which protects the tile from bearing the weight of the speakers. For installation in new construction, use the Bose rough-in kit (product code 031353) designed for use after the studs are in place and before the wallboard is added (to reserve a place for the speakers and indicate where the wallboard hole should be made). I recently installed the Bose 191 speakers in a new basement finish, and have finally had a chance to test them. The clarity of the speakers on the higher end is very good, but what is immedately noticable is the rich bass that fills the room. I am not an audiophile, but I am picky about what I hear, and for what I intend for these speakers they are perfect. This will be a game room with the speakers wall mounted. For my initial test, I turned on Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion" (a song by which any good speaker system should be judged) and made it nice and loud. Passed with flying colors!
Bose is the best....but you are paying for it too. February 12, 2009

These speakers are awsome. They come in pairs and you can swap and rotate them with the rectagle or round cover that uses the same size hole. I need to go get another pair for the front surround sounds.
They are worth the cost...

These were a husbandly-compromise, as my wife was adamant about not having a big bass unit in the newly refurbished living room. They're not quite as great as advertised, especially on the bass, but they do have as small a profile as you could want, especially if you paint the grills (and you get a choice of round or rectangular) the same color as the wall. The only objection is that although I used the Bose mounting plates before sheetrocking, they do not lie absolutely flush with the wall. However, the sound is pretty good, all things considered.
